Today I toured the laboratories and the seed bank at the facility of the Makerere Regional Centre for Crop Improvement (MaRCCI) at the Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute Kabanyolo (MUARIK). The team led by Dr. Richard Edema is doing a great job in breeding varieties of indigenous food crops, including cowpeas and sorghum that will contribute to ensuring food security in our region. Currently MARCCI is training crop breeders from more than 20 African countries.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and President of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center signing Memorandum of Understanding as other officials witness

I signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the President of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at Sun Yat-sen University. We have agreed to collaborate in advancing ophthalmology at our two institutions. Remarkably, one in every six ophthalmologists in China is a graduate of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, making it a leading global research hub in this field. I look forward to the fruits of our collaboration.
