Makerere University is set to establish a Centre of Excellence in honor of Archbishop Stanley Ntagali. The Centre will focus on research, conflict resolution, religious and peace studies. This was revealed by Dr. Eria Hisali, the Principal, College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) who represented the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe at the Archbishop’s farewell service organized by St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University on 18th January 2020.
“Your Grace, you are leaving behind a very powerful legacy. The Centre of Excellence will honor and keep your legacy alive and our students will continue benefiting from your inspiring and transformational sermons,” said Dr. Hisali.
He noted that the God has abundantly blessed the Archbishop and as such, a lot has been achieved under his leadership.
The Archbishop Rt. Rev. Stanley Ntagali appreciated the cordial relationship between Makerere University Management and the Church of Uganda and pledged to support the establishment the Centre of Excellence in his honor. He thanked the St. Francis fraternity for organizing a service to bid him farewell. During the service, the Archbishop confirmed 98 candidates into Christianity.
To the confirmed candidates he said, “Confirmation is an important day in the journey of Christianity, stay loyal to your vows, focus on God and guide other people to follow Jesus Christ our Saviour.”
Rt. Rev. Stanley Ntagali was elected Archbishop by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda on 22nd June 2012 and enthroned on 16th December 2012. He is set to retire on 1st March 2020 when he clocks the Church of Uganda’s statutory retirement age of 65 years, and will hand over to Rt. Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu.
In his remarks, Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Chaplain St. Francis Chapel, applauded Archbishop Ntagali for his tremendous achievements in the spiritual realm which have also been manifested in physical infrastructure such as, creation of new Dioceses, revitalization of the Youth and Students Ministry, the Insurance of clergy and Christians through the KIDO Program and maintaining peace in the entire Province.
“I appreciate your efforts towards completion of the Archbishop Janani Luwum Church House which had stalled for 40 years, establishment of Uganda Martyrs Museum in Namugongo, construction of All Saints Cathedral Kampala, firm stand for the authority of Scripture against same sex unions, focus on Missions, Evangelism and Family Life Ministry,” said Rev. Asiimwe
He thanked the Archbishop for nominating Him for the service of Chaplain of Makerere University St. Francis Chapel.
