Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Kirenga Baryabota joined Makerere University in July 1970 for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science. Your life, Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile has been a source of blessing. We are therefore not going to mourn your passing, but to celebrate the generous life, illustrious and rewarding career. Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, a distinguished alumnus of Makerere University has served humanity with all his heart, body, soul and might.
The name Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile re-echoes diligent service! We are honoured that your name will always remain in the history of this great institution as Guild President, a great scholar, seasoned economist and Honorary Professor. You have generously used your wisdom, knowledge, skills, talent and resources to make the lives of so many people in Uganda and beyond realize a positive difference in their lives. We are also exceedingly humbled by the fact that this Makerere University alumnus has served as Governor, Bank of Uganda for 21 years. He has played an instrumental role in the economic transformation of our mother land – Uganda.
Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile was a perfect representation of the Makerere University brand at national and international levels. In recognition of his efforts, Makerere University on 14th December 2006, appointed him Honorary Professor. We are glad that we were presented with a golden opportunity while he was still alive and well to recognize his love and contribution to Makerere University.
Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, your alma-mater occupied a very central place in your heart and mind! You always created time to participate in programmes of your alma-mater and above all, championed strategies aimed at bringing on board the private sector and business community to work with Makerere University academia. You had also expressed readiness and willingness to participate in stakeholder mobilization efforts as your alma-mater, Makerere University celebrates 100 years of existence throughout the year 2022. We will miss you dearly, but we find solace in the fact that, the time that you have lived, you were a true friend of Makerere University! The Makerere University Management will ensure that your dream of building strong University-private sector partnerships lives on!
To the widow, Mrs. Betty Mutebile, thank you for always supporting your spouse and friend to participate in Makerere University programmes. May the good Lord comfort you, Mrs. Mutebile, the Bank of Uganda family as well friends all over the globe!
The key lesson to each and every one of us, is to emulate the life of Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile. We may not be like him, but let us use the gift of life, wisdom, knowledge and talent that God has blessed us with to make Uganda and the world at large a better place.
As stated in the bible in 2nd Timothy 4: 7-8, Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile has fought a good fight, he has finished the course, he has kept the faith. There is a crown of righteousness laid up for him, which the righteous judge, shall present to Emmanuel on that day!

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released lists of Successful appeals and supplementary lists. Below is a list arising from appeals of Government Sponsored candidates who have been admitted:
Makerere University and DFCU Bank have today signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster innovation, student leadership, research and community impact initiatives.
The collaboration which will see the equipping of the Disability Support center for students living with disabilities through the MAK run and more leadership trainings for students will begin this July.
“The MoU will strengthen research collaborations across sectors like agriculture and health and it will also support the Mutebile Centre to assist private sector growth, which is crucial in lifting Africa out of poverty,” said Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice Chancellor.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Charles M. Mudiwa, the DFCU Bank Chief Executive Officer, welcomed the move, noting its alignment with the bank’s mission to transform lives and support national development through four pillars: funding, financial inclusion, enterprise development, and vocational education.
“This MoU crowns years of effort and shared intent between our institutions,” he stated. Mr. Mudiwa highlighted the bank’s commitment to skilling youth through internships, curriculum development, and support for innovation hubs and centres of excellence at the university. “We consume the graduates of Makerere. In our most recent graduate intake of 87, 60% were Makerere alumni. The bank allocates around 30 internship positions annually to equip young people with the skills necessary for future roles within the institution,” Mr. Mudiwa, noted.
Representing the student body, Guild President His Excellency, Sentamu Churchill James, commended the partnership as a timely intervention that will empower youth, support SMEs, and expand internship and leadership development opportunities.

“Students are the heartbeat of the university. This collaboration will empower youth and strengthen their role in national development,” His Excellency Ssentamu, said.
