Thank You NCBA

Published

This evening, together with Dr. Maggie Kigozi, Chairperson of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Board, I had the honour of unveiling NCBA Bank Uganda as the Platinum Sponsor of the Makerere Marathon 2025 (MakMarathon 2025) the first ever international-standard full marathon hosted at our esteemed institution.

In a remarkable show of commitment, NCBA Bank Uganda has pledged UGX 1.45 billion to support this marathon over the next five years. The proceeds from the inaugural event, which will take place on 17th August 2025, will go towards enhancing the One Stop Disability Support Centre at Makerere University.

During the unveiling ceremony, NCBA Bank CEO, Mr. Anthony Muyobo, also expressed the Bank’s intention to support both research initiatives at the University and tuition assistance for financially disadvantaged students. We are deeply grateful to NCBA for this substantial investment in our University and in the future of our youth.

I take this opportunity to call upon all students, staff, alumni, their families, and well-wishers to purchase marathon kits and actively participate in this exciting event. MakMarathon 2025 promises to be more than just a race — it will feature a vibrant music festival and a variety of fun activities, transforming the day into a true Makerere Family Day.

Thank you, NCBA Bank Uganda.

This afternoon I have launched the Makerere University Grants Administration Professionals (MakGAP) after a four-day intensive training conducted by experts from Makerere University and Northwestern University, USA. With a portfolio of more than 100 new grants registered every month, Makerere University needs to have a critical mass of grants administration professionals to manage this huge research grants portfolio. I thank the Grants Administration and Management Unit (GAMSU), led by Prof. Sylvia Tamusuza Nakimera Nnanyonga for conducting the training.

The late former Vice Chancellor 2004 to 2009 Prof. Luboobi Livingstone.

I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Professor Livingstone Luboobi, former Vice Chancellor of Makerere University. A distinguished Professor of Mathematics, Professor Luboobi served as Vice Chancellor from 2004 to 2009, guiding the university through a critical period of transformation and growth. His contributions to academia and leadership at Makerere will be remembered with great respect and admiration. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
