H.E. Benjamin Mkapa receives Makerere honorary PhD

Former Tanzanian President and Makerere Alumni H.E. Benjamin Mkapa was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws of Makerere University on Friday 27th November 2009 at a colorful ceremony presided over by the Chancellor in the University Main Hall.

Background

On satisfying the requirements and passing the evaluation by The Honorary Awards Committee, His Excellency’s candidature was forwarded to the University Senate for consideration and studied the evaluation. Having been satisfied with the evaluation, The University Senate approved the recommendation. The University Senate’s decision was then forwarded to the University Council. On receipt of the Senator’s decision, the Chairperson of Council developed a resolution, which guided the Members of Council to endorse the decision of the Senators.

While awarding the Honorary Doctorate to H.E. Benjamin Mkapa, the Chancellor, Professor George Mondo Kagonyera proudly announced: “You are the right choice. You have made Makerere University proud. This award is in recognition of your outstanding record of excellence in diplomacy, journalism, administration, governance; regional and global politics. Your Alma Mater is proud of you.”

It gives us all great pleasure to publicize that our very own (H.E. Benjamin Mkapa), on Friday 27th November 2009, joined the academic and historic records of Makerere University. For now and the years to come, we officially know him as “H.E. Dr.(h.c.) Benjamin Mkapa”.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
