In her presentation to the on-going meeting of Vice Chancellors of leading global universities, the Secretary General (SG) of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Dr. Joanna Newman highlighted the role Makerere and other universities have played in the fight against COVID-19. In particular she has mentioned our collaboration with the private sector on a low cost ventilator.

The SG of the International Association of Universities Hilligje van't Land and ACU SG in response to my question on effects of COVID 19 on research collaboration have emphasized the need for use of technology to continue research collaboration.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and President of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center signing Memorandum of Understanding as other officials witness

I signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the President of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at Sun Yat-sen University. We have agreed to collaborate in advancing ophthalmology at our two institutions. Remarkably, one in every six ophthalmologists in China is a graduate of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, making it a leading global research hub in this field. I look forward to the fruits of our collaboration.
