Makerere University is collaborating on a project called Building capacity for REDD+ in East Africa for improved ecosystem health and for sustainable livelihoods in Eastern Africa (REDD-EA). REDD+ is a policy framework aimed at mitigating climate change. The project supports 14 PhD students and 27 Masters students and several senior researchers at both Makerere University and at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).
The goal of the REDD-EA project is to contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved ecosystem health for sustainable livelihoods in Eastern Africa. The intended outcome is to strengthen capacity of Central government, local government, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and community institutions to plan and implement REDD+.
In line with the above objective, a two-day dissemination workshop has kicked off today 16th November 2017 at the Kolping Hotel, Kampala to enable the students disseminate their findings to key stakeholders.
REDD-EA is one of the 9 Norwegian Programme for Capacity Building in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED) funded projects where Makerere University is the lead partner. The five year NOK 17.9million project has Prof. John Tabuti from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) as its Principal Investigator.
