The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT) is hosting the fourth Joint Doctoral School between African Doctoral Academy (ADA) Stellenbosch and Makerere University.
The two-week training commenced on 6th November 2017 at Conference Hall, Level 4 in Senate Building, Makerere University. The fourth Doctoral School is majoring Philosophy of Methods and the Department of Philosophy and Development Studies, Makerere University is conducting the training.
The 4th Joint Doctoral School was opened by the Director of DRGT, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi.
In his remarks, Professor Buyinza thanked Stellenbosch University for their support for the cross-cutting courses. He also encouraged participants to stay through the two weeks of the course so as to truly benefit from the training.
At the opening ceremony, Ms. Corina Du Toit, the Programme Manager of the African Doctoral Academy at Stellenbosch University said that Makerere University is a strategic partner that Stellenbosch University is always happy to collaborate with. She also thanked the Director DRGT for hosting the joint doctoral schools between Stellenbosch University and Makerere University.
The two-week long course is among the required cross cutting courses for PhD students to expand their academic and practical comprehension of the concepts of science, knowledge and research; acquaint the students with the philosophical principles behind the quantitative and qualitative methods of research; enhance the students’ awareness about ethical conflicts in relation to research; and provide a forum for each student to discuss, and improve their own research proposals.
Fifty five (55) PhD candidates are attending the course. Of these, thirty seven (37) participants are from Makerere University. The others are from the partner public universities.
