Re-advertisement for admissions to graduate programmes 2017/18

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University is inviting applications for admission to the following Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate, Diplomas and Master’s Degree Programmes) for the 2017/2018 Academic Year that have a few vacant slots. 

Eligible applicants should have obtained at least a first degree (or its equivalent) from a recognized and chartered university/institution at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Ugandan Certificate of Education with at least five passes (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two principal passes and one subsidiary pass obtained at the same sitting (or its equivalent).                                                                              

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the listed programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.

Application Procedure

Hard copies of application forms are obtainable from the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, 3rd Floor, Senate Building, Room 307 after payment of an application fee of Ug. shs 50,000/= (Ugandan applicants) and Ug. Shs. 151,500 (International Applicants) to any Stanbic Bank Branch and DFCU Bank, Centenary Bank or Post Bank using Makerere University paying-in-bank slips.  International applicants can also pay by bank draft as cheques will not be honoured.

  • Relevant supporting certified copies of certificates, and academic transcripts,
  • Letters from 3 referees.
  • 2passport photos.

Please strictly observe the closing date of Friday 11th August, 2017.

Undergraduate Admission Lists 2026/2027

Students in discussion groups at Freedom Square.

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released admission lists of candidates admitted under the Talented Sports Men & Women, Disability and District Quota Schemes with Government sponsorship 2026/27 Academic Year including appeals and remarked cases.

Other admission lists released include A-Level Applicants with Ugandan and those with Foreign Qualifications, Diploma in Performing Arts, Mature-Age Entry and Bachelor of Education (EXTERNAL Batch 2) for the Academic Year 2026/2027 under self sponsorship.

Makerere jumps 200 positions in latest global rankings

Makerere University‘s position in the July 2026 edition of the Webometrics Rankings has improved from 925th to 776th globally and from 13th to 11th on the Continent, compared to the January 2026 edition. Makerere remains the top-ranked University in Uganda and East Africa.

The new rankings are as a result of improved performance in the Impact Rank, which measures the number of external domains referring/linking to Makerere (from 1,593 to 1,185) and the Excellence Rank, which measures Research papers in the top 10% most cited between 2019 and 2023 (from 1,095 to 715).

The ACT-PREP project aims to strengthen surveillance, ethics, pharmacovigilance, diagnostics, and policy foundations within Africa’s Emergency Preparedness and Response ecosystem.
