Call for Applications for PhD Scholarships Training under AfDB-HEST Programme (2013-2018)

Makerere University is among the six public universities benefiting from the 4-year AfDBHEST funding. The funding, among other components supports human resource capacity
development. The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training has been requested to coordinate the process of identifying the PhD students to benefit from the scholarship .

Applications are now invited from eligible academic staff to compete for two (2) Ph .D scholarships in the areas of Technology and Applied Sciences. The scholarship will cover
tuition and research costs for three (3) years.

Applicants must include a current CV and an itemized detailed budget following Makerere University format . Applications in a soft and three hard copies should be submitted by 27th November 2015 to:

Makerere University.

The soft copies should be emailed to:conference@rgt .mak.ac.ug and copied to: director@rgt.mak.ac.ug

The application should be accompanied with:

  1. Evidence of employment as an ACADEMIC Member of Staff
  2. Evidence of FULL ADMISSION for the PhD programme
  3. Evidence that the applicant was granted STUDY LEAVE (where applicable)
  4. Provide a progress report duly signed by the supervisor(s)
  5. Declaration and evidence of other sources of funding if any
  • Supported PhD students must complete their activities by September 2018.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
