Accommodation For Year One Students 2015-16

The Dean of Students, Makerere University warmly welcomes all fresh men and women and wishes to bring to their attention the following accommodation guidelines.

1. GOVERNMENT SPONSORED

a) Automatic Accommodation

A’Level entrants offered the following programmes may be accommodated in the Halls of Residence to which they are attached as indicated on the admission letter. Eligible students not willing to take up the offer should inform the Dean of Students in writing.

i. Bachelor of Science in Agriculural Engineering (AGE)
ii. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (AGR)
iii. Bachelor of Architecture (ARC)

b) Non Residents

The rest of the students, including all those admitted through Diploma and Mature Age entry schemes (irrespective of programmes offered) shall be Non-Residents and eligible for Food and Living out allowance.

c) Change to Private Programmes

Students admitted on Government Sponsorship but who choose to take up alternative study programmes under private sponsorship shall lose all government-related benefits and should not claim for any.

d) Students Admitted Under Disability Scheme

Students in the above scheme may be resident in the Halls of attachment indicated on their admission letters, irrespective of the programmes offered.

e) Students Admitted Under Sports & District Quota Schemes

Students admitted under these categories will be treated as in 1(a) and (b) above, subject to availability of bed space by the time their admission is finalized.

2. CHANGE OF HALLS OF ATTACHMENT:

this is PROHIBITED except where Gender was mixed up i.e. Female allocated to Male Halls of Residence or vice versa.

3. PRIVATELY SPONSORED STUDENTS

a. A few bed spaces have been reserved for privately sponsored students. Accommodation arrangements for privately sponsored students shall be communicated after their admissions.

b. Privately sponsored students granted permission to reside in Halls of Residence shall pay for meals at the nearest Food Court. Ther are six Food Courts located in Africa, Nkrumah/Nsibirwa, University Hall, Mary Stuart, Galloway House and Kabanyolo Hostel.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

Call for Applications: Admission to Postgraduate Programmes 2026/2027

SoL Graduands celebrate after being conferred upon their awards. 75th Graduation Ceremony, Day 1, CoCIS, CEES, CoVAB and School of Law. 13th January 2025, Freedom Square, Makerere University, Kampala Uganda, East Africa.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
