This regional course is organized by the Centre for Development Innovation of Wageningen UR in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa.

The course is focused on catalysing the economic potential of rural areas. Taking the socio-economic position of small-holder households as a starting point, a systems approach is used for economic development through which five potential, generic types of interventions are analysed in depth: Public Private Partnerships; Agribusiness; Sustainable Sourcing; Producer Organizations and Value Chains. Each of these interventions is illustrated by an existing, real life case by the case owners themselves.

Another strength of the course is that lessons learned will be integrated into personal cases brought in by the course participants themselves. During the course these cases will be developed into bankable project proposals through a strategic planning process. This will be an important, tangible ‘take home’ output of the course!

The deadline for applications is 31 July 2011. Please be informed that a considerable discount on the course fee is negotiable.
