The telecommunications company which started its operations in Uganda in 2009 is the second largest internet provider in the whole world. It has been operating in Europe, Asia, and North America where it has established a number of labs to facilitate their services.
Orange Uganda Chief Executive Officer, Philippe Luxcey said that their mission is to provide quality services to all their customers around the world without any discrimination. “We don’t have European quality or African quality but Orange quality” he said.
“We want to provide services to the African continent which will suit both the developed and developing economies. We will provide new software based on African Technology and this partnership with Makerere University will help us to achieve this” he added.
Dr. Nabukenya Josephine, Dean, Faculty of Computing & IT affirmed that the faculty will use its facilities to collaborate with Orange in providing human resource, infrastructure, and computing software as well as anything else that Orange may need.
“The Faculty has been involved in collaborations with local and international organizations through which we have established a number of infrastructures including a Mobile Computing Lab” she added.
By partnering with Makerere University, Orange Telecom will have joined Google, Nokia and The British Council which have been providing support to Information and Communication Technology in the University.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba said that the University will offer its best so as to keep its credibility in information technology training so as so support the partnership with Orange Telecom.
He hailed the telecommunications company saying that their internet services have increasingly become visible in Kampala within just a year. “I am not marketing for you but your services are really good.” He told the Orange team.
