Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) in partnership with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences; Independent University of Bangladesh; Eduardo Mondlane University; and Pokhara University, with funding from Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED) is implementing a project, ‘Co-creating Knowledge for Local Adaptation to Climate Change in LDCs (COLOCAL).
The aim of the project is to build capacity for facilitating processes of knowledge co-creation, collaborative learning, locally-led and community-based adaptation (CBA) education, action-oriented research and practice. The target groups for the project include University faculty, students, early-career researchers and practitioners, local and national governments, community-based organizations, as well as vulnerable and marginalized social groups.
To accomplish activities in line with the aim above, the project seeks to recruit young, enthusiastic, passionate and open-minded graduates with relevant skills and knowledge and demonstrated career-path interest related to project as follows;
Job Title: Research Assistants

Job purpose
The overall purpose of the job is to provide support to the COLOCAL team and partners in undertaking knowledge co-creation, collaborative learning, locally-led and community-based adaptation (CBA) education, action-oriented research and outreach activities of the project
Duties and Responsibilities
Major duties include providing research technical and logistical support; Participating in translation and dissemination of knowledge products; Assisting in planning, implementation and reporting on field activities; Participating in organizing and produce reports for trainings, seminars, workshops and meetings; Undertake literature reviews to support project activities, among others.
Personal Specification
- Minimum qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field related to climate change adaptation with an outstanding academic performance (First Class or Second-class Upper Division)
- Required experience
- At least six months of practical experience in an action-oriented research environment including conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research on place-based adaptation to climate change.
- Previous working experience with COLOCAL and other related research projects will be an added advantage.
- Essential skills/competences
- Demonstrated interest in locally-led and community-based adaptation to climate change
- Proven good writing and general communication skills
- Willingness and availability to start working at the beginning of the month of July, 2023
- Evidence of basic knowledge and skills in conducting participatory action-oriented research
- Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated computer literacy (e.g., simple computer data analysis with packages such as Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)
