Mobility Scholarships to Finland and South Africa For PHD/LLD HUMAN RIGHTS Doctoral Research

In partnership with: the Institute for Human Rights at Åbo Akademi University; Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria; School of Law at Addis Ababa University; and School of Law Nairobi University, the School of Law, Makerere University is implementing a regional project called Strengthening Human Rights Research and Education in Sub-Saharan Africa (SHUREA). SHUREA is a Finnish Government funded project aimed at strengthening policy relevant human rights research at the member institutions

With financial support from SHUREA project, the School of Law, Makerere University gives two mobility scholarships for PhD/LLD candidates doing human rights doctoral research. These scholarships support the beneficiaries to spend up-to 4 months (From August-December) at either Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria (South Africa) or the Institute for Human Rights at Åbo Akademi University (Finland). The Scholarships cover travel costs, visa costs, health insurance, residence permit costs, accommodation and living allowance.

This is a call for applications for those interested in these scholarships. Applicants must be registered LLD/PhD candidates at Makerere University doing human rights doctoral research.

HOW TO APPLY

Applicants should submit the following documents to the office of the Deputy Principal, School of Law, Makerere University or by email to rnaluwairo@law.mak.ac.ug/naluwairo1@gmail.com. Copy to jnankinga@law.mak.ac.ug

  • A motivation letter of not more one page
  • A short bio of not more than 1000 words
  • Summary concept note of not more than 2 pages of the doctoral research indicating the topic, the problem, the objectives, research questions and methodology
  • Proposed work-plan for the 4 months
  • Recommendation from the supervisor

Deadline for receipt of applications: Thursday 15th March 2018.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
