Makerere signs Memorandum of Understanding with Total

Makerere University signed a three year Memorandum of Understanding with Total E&P Uganda on 15th May 2012, to collaborate in the area of promoting education and development. Makerere as an academic institution has technical and scientific knowledge in a variety of fields. Total E & P Uganda is engaged in the exploration and development of petroleum resources in Uganda.

The collaboration will see students benefit from internships at the company offices, scholarship programs for four graduates from Civil and Electrical Engineering at the French Institute of petroleum, starting September 2012. Two university students will also participate in discussions and forums on energy business issues at the Total Summer School in Paris. There will also be education and energy seminars for university professors specializing in sciences related to energy business or economics.

At the same function, Makerere also signed an MoU with Total Professeurs Associes (TPA), a not – for –profit association offering courses covering all aspects of the oil industry. TPA aims at building bridges between the oil industry, major universities and governmental institutions.

The General Manager of Total E & P Uganda, Loic Laurandel described the ceremony as a milestone in the realization of better education for students in the petroleum field.

“We hope these MoUs will pave way for young people from all backgrounds to study and apply their talents in the oil industry. At Total, we believe in the importance of creating partnerships with the education institutions in our host country as a key to development of local talent and their integration into our business. The MoU will assist in the planning ahead of the industries human resources requirements and cement our partner network activities,” he said.

The University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba said, “we are happy you have chosen to partner with Makerere especially in the area of capacity building. Makerere has been calling for partnerships with the private sector and it is good that Total Uganda has heeded this call, at a time when government is also looking at strengthening science course units.” He called upon other private companies to partner with Makerere University in the respective disciplines.

Special University Entry Examinations for the Diploma in Performing Arts 2026/27

Students from the Department of Performing Arts on 4th April 2025.

The Academic Registrar Makerere University invites applications for the Special University Entry Examinations for admission to the Diploma in Performing Arts.

The examination will take place on Saturday 16th May, 2026.

Application process is online for those intending to sit the examination. Kindly note that there is payment of a non-refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000/- excluding bank charges in any (Stanbic Bank, Dfcu Post Bank, UBA and Centenary Bank). After filling the online application, you will be provided with 2 Past Papers.

To be eligible to sit the examinations, the candidate must possess an O’ Level Certificate (UCE) with at least 5 Passes.

The deadline for receiving the online applications is Tuesday 12th May 2026.

How to Apply

  • Application is online for ALL applicants.
  • Other relevant information can be obtained from Undergraduate Mature Age Office, Level 5, Room 505, Senate Building, Makerere University or can be accessed from https://see.mak.ac.ug
  • A non refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000= for Ugandans, East Africans Applicants (Including S. Sudan & DRC) OR US $ 75 or equivalent for international applicants plus bank charges should be paid in any of the banks used by Uganda Revenue Authority.

Diploma Holders Admission Lists under Government Sponsorship for 2026/2027 AY

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released lists of Diploma holders admitted under the Government Sponsorship Scheme for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

Under the Diploma Holders Government Sponsorship Scheme admission does not exceed 5% of the intake capacity to the respective Degree Programme.

Mature Age Examination Results for 2026/2027 Academic Year

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

Candidates who scored a minimum of 50% passed and have been recommended by the Pre-Entry & Mature Age Committee to the University’s Admissions Committee for consideration.

The Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027 can be accessed by following this link.
