Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, the largest commercial bank in Uganda, has today, 18th May, donated UGX 150 million towards Makerere’s centenary celebrations.
This timely contribution will be instrumental in boosting activities lined up on the university calendar in commemoration of a hundred years of Makerere’s existence. The activities include Public Lectures, a Centenary Conference, and Centenary Run, among many others that can be accessed through the events section on this website.
In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has thanked Ms Anne Juuko, the Chief Executive Officer, Stanbic bank and the entire bank leadership for the “generous donation of UGX 150 million towards the Makerere at a hundred celebrations. May our partnership grow stronger,” he said, via his Twitter page.

Commenting on the donation, Ms Anne Juuko, the CEO of Stanbic bank said that as a proud alumna of Makerere, she will continue being the institution’s great ambassador and that today’s UGX 150 million contribution towards the centenary celebrations is not all.
“We have contributed UGX 150 Million to Makerere at a hundred celebrations, and that is not all, we will continue supporting the university in kind.” Ms Anne Juuko said.
Ms Anne Juuko further pledged a strong partnership between Stanbic Bank and Makerere University, she reiterated this year’s collaboration agreed between both institutions to provide students with laptops to ease E-Learning, as Makerere embraces online teaching in the post- Covid-19 world.
“In partnership with Makerere, Stanbic Bank through the ‘Ffuna Ka Laptop Program,’ students can now get laptops at a minimum fee of UGX 70,000 per month.” she said, adding, “We are committed to the evolution of education as Makerere celebrates a hundred years.

Makerere University and DFCU Bank have today signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster innovation, student leadership, research and community impact initiatives.
The collaboration which will see the equipping of the Disability Support center for students living with disabilities through the MAK run and more leadership trainings for students will begin this July.
“The MoU will strengthen research collaborations across sectors like agriculture and health and it will also support the Mutebile Centre to assist private sector growth, which is crucial in lifting Africa out of poverty,” said Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice Chancellor.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Charles M. Mudiwa, the DFCU Bank Chief Executive Officer, welcomed the move, noting its alignment with the bank’s mission to transform lives and support national development through four pillars: funding, financial inclusion, enterprise development, and vocational education.
“This MoU crowns years of effort and shared intent between our institutions,” he stated. Mr. Mudiwa highlighted the bank’s commitment to skilling youth through internships, curriculum development, and support for innovation hubs and centres of excellence at the university. “We consume the graduates of Makerere. In our most recent graduate intake of 87, 60% were Makerere alumni. The bank allocates around 30 internship positions annually to equip young people with the skills necessary for future roles within the institution,” Mr. Mudiwa, noted.
Representing the student body, Guild President His Excellency, Sentamu Churchill James, commended the partnership as a timely intervention that will empower youth, support SMEs, and expand internship and leadership development opportunities.
