The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training in collaboration with Makerere University Library has commenced a one-week course entitled Information Competence and Management. This is a crosscutting training course mandatory for all PhD candidates at Makerere University.
At the opening ceremony, the First Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Assoc. Prof. Umar Kakumba encouraged the participants to fight on and attain the Phd. He said that most developed countries derived their development from research and knowledge generation. He called on the participants to be a contribution to the knowledge economy.
The course, physically attended by thirty PhD students and others online, will be in session between Monday 23rd to 27th November 2020 at the Multipurpose Computer Lab, Main Library (New Extension 2nd Floor), Makerere University. Among the topics to be discussed include: Introduction to the research process, including elements of a successful research paper, introduction to bibliographic searches for literature review, Communication of Research Output, sources of information, document delivery services, reference management using Endnote and Mendely, scholarly writing and communications skills, presentation of research work among others.
