UNESCO Selects Mak-DJC to Co-host World Press Fredom Day Conference

The Makerere University Department of Journalism and Communication (Mak-DJC) has been selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) alongside three other universities (Sheffield in the UK, OsloMet in Norway, and Malaga in Spain) to host the 2019 World Press Freedom day academic conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 1st May 2019.

For a now decade, Mak-DJC has been a “UNESCO Centre of Excellence in Journalism Training in Africa”. In that capacity, we have conducted commissioned studies for UNESCO on a host of topics using the agency’s ‘Media Development Indicators’ such as safety of journalists, freedom of expression and of the media, training standards for journalists among others.

Mak-DJC shall chair one of the sessions on “The impact of internet shutdowns on governance and justice”. The events taking place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 1st to 4th May 2019 will attract many stakeholders in global media development. We are honored to represent the entire African continent and fly high the Mak flag.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13^thDecember 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
