Makerere-Sweden Competitive Small Grants: Call For Applications 2018

The Swedish research collaboration with Uganda was initiated in 2000 with the objective of promoting research and research training and to develop sustainable institutional capacity in an effort to strengthen higher education and an autonomous university system within the framework of National policies and plans.

The current cooperation agrement period (2015 – 2020) is being implemented by five partner Ugandan public Universities including Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Busitema University, Gulu University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology. The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, Makerere University now invites applications for the competitive small research grants (10 Grants) in any discipline for the year 2018. The grant will last for 6 months and supports smaller scale or pilot research projects that have budgets of UGX 15,000,000 or less (Max. Uganda Shillion Fifteen million Only).

The eligibility requirements include:

  1. An active academic and research University staff
  2. Evidence of employment at one of the five partner Ugandan public Universites
  3. Applications should be accompanied with a research Concept Note (Max. 5 pages; Font Times New Roman; one and half line spacing; single-sided page).
  4. Should not be a registered student for an academic award at the time of application
  5. Female applicants are encouraged to apply

Reporting Requirements
Within 6 months of receiving a Small Research Grant, the successful applicant must submit a final report to the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training on his or her project or, with justification, and copy of publication(s) resulting from the project.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
