The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) is an Islamic educational organization whose stated purpose is to establish a platform where Muslim youth can get together in an Islamic environment. WAMY also achieves to establish a relationship of dialogue, understanding and appreciation between Muslim organizations and the western societies.

On Thursday 6th April 2010, H.E. Dr. Swaleh El-Uhaibiy, Secretary General WAMY, accompanied by a team from the School of Education; led by the Dean, Dr. Masagazi-Masaazi and the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), made a courtesy call on the Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba.
The visit by the Secretary General was significant in reinforcing WAMY’s commitment in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Makerere and WAMY to help the School of Education with the growth and development of Arabic as one of the languages taught. Dr. El-Uhaibiy appreciated the warm reception accorded to his team and hoped that his visit with open up other areas of communication and collaboration between Makerere and Saudi Arabian Universities.
While looking at an artistic impression of the proposed seven-storey building, Prof. Baryamureeba thanked the Secretary General for WAMY’s pledge to support Makerere establish infrastructure that would indeed cement its position as the center of excellence. The building which will be constructed in phases will have the first phase cover four floors, with additional support from the French and German governments to facilitate the teaching of their respective languages.
