ICHIO members share a “Kodak” moment with the children in Katoogo during the First-ever NTDs Day Celebrations on 30th January 2020, Gaba, Kampala Uganda.

As we celebrate the International Day of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), I salute the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (CHS) and our international partners on the big strides made in research in tropical diseases. Makerere will continue leading in efforts to eradicate these diseases.

Vice Chancellor stands with the first female student of Gondar University, Ethiopia at the 70th Anniversary celebrations

At the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Gondar University in Ethiopia, I have met the first female student of the university. I have also participated in the launch of the Ethiopia Research Consortium. I have congratulated them on the launch of the Consortium and emphasised that it is through such collaboration that we will produce a critical mass of researchers for Africa.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and President of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center signing Memorandum of Understanding as other officials witness

I signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the President of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at Sun Yat-sen University. We have agreed to collaborate in advancing ophthalmology at our two institutions. Remarkably, one in every six ophthalmologists in China is a graduate of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, making it a leading global research hub in this field. I look forward to the fruits of our collaboration.

This afternoon we bid final farewell to a great son of Uganda and a dedicated servant of Makerere. We will always remember Prof. Luboobi as an intellectual who laid the foundation for a research-led Makerere. Farewell, great son of Africa.
