Mak Position of University Secretary

Makerere University is currently governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended) of the Republic of Uganda. The University is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to take up the position of University Secretary.

  • Salary Scale: M3
  • Age Limit: 55 years
  • Application Deadline: 17:00 Hours (5:00PM) EAT on 7th January 2021

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Management Studies or relevant Management, Administration field or Master of Laws from a reputable Institution;
  2. An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Law or humanities in a relevant field;
  3. Possession of ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) or Administrative Officer’s Law certificate is an added advantage.

Reports To:

The University Secretary reports to the Vice Chancellor

Other Essential qualities

  1. Leadership and supervisory skills;
  2. Ability to build, lead and work with teams;
  3. Computer literacy;
  4. Interpersonal & communication skills;
  5. Quick judgment and decision making;
  6. Very good tactical and strategic planning skills;
  7. Ability to initiate change;
  8. Integrity.

Experience:

A minimum of 12 years’ experience; 3 of which should have been at Senior Managerial level.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The University Secretary shall be responsible for the general administration of the University, including the custody of the Seal and administration of its Assets and resources.

  1. Secretary to the University Council;
  2. Shall be the Accounting Officer of the University;
  3. Disseminate Council decisions to implementing units in a timely manner;
  4. Responsible for all legal matters of the University;
  5. Responsible for all procurement and disposal matters of the University;
  6. Advise Council on Integrity and propriety of governance;
  7. Provide input to statutes and policies of the University;
  8. Ensure that the Oath of Secrecy and Allegiance is administered to members of Council and its Committees;
  9. Responsible for the seal and management of assets and liabilities of the University.

Special University Entry Examinations for the Diploma in Performing Arts 2026/27

Students from the Department of Performing Arts on 4th April 2025.

The Academic Registrar Makerere University invites applications for the Special University Entry Examinations for admission to the Diploma in Performing Arts.

The examination will take place on Saturday 16th May, 2026.

Application process is online for those intending to sit the examination. Kindly note that there is payment of a non-refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000/- excluding bank charges in any (Stanbic Bank, Dfcu Post Bank, UBA and Centenary Bank). After filling the online application, you will be provided with 2 Past Papers.

To be eligible to sit the examinations, the candidate must possess an O’ Level Certificate (UCE) with at least 5 Passes.

The deadline for receiving the online applications is Tuesday 12th May 2026.

  • Application is online for ALL applicants.
  • Other relevant information can be obtained from Undergraduate Mature Age Office, Level 5, Room 505, Senate Building, Makerere University or can be accessed from https://see.mak.ac.ug
  • A non refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000= for Ugandans, East Africans Applicants (Including S. Sudan & DRC) OR US $ 75 or equivalent for international applicants plus bank charges should be paid in any of the banks used by Uganda Revenue Authority.

Diploma Holders Admission Lists under Government Sponsorship for 2026/2027 AY

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released lists of Diploma holders admitted under the Government Sponsorship Scheme for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

Under the Diploma Holders Government Sponsorship Scheme admission does not exceed 5% of the intake capacity to the respective Degree Programme.

Mature Age Examination Results for 2026/2027 Academic Year

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

Candidates who scored a minimum of 50% passed and have been recommended by the Pre-Entry & Mature Age Committee to the University’s Admissions Committee for consideration.
