Mak Position of Director Legal Affairs

Makerere University is currently governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended) of the Republic of Uganda. The University is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to take up the position of Director Legal Affairs.

  • Salary Scale: M3
  • Age Limit: 55 years
  • Application Deadline: 17:00 Hours (5:00PM) EAT on 7th January 2021

Qualifications:

  1. An Honors Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized Institution;
  2. A Diploma in Legal Practice;
  3. An Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid Practicing Certificate;
  4. A Master of Laws Degree from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
  5. Managerial experience will be an added advantage.

Reports To:

The Director Legal Affairs reports to the University Secretary

Other Essential Requirements

  1. Leadership and supervisory skills; 
  2. Ability to build, lead, and work with teams;
  3. Computer literacy; 
  4. Interpersonal & communication skills; 
  5. Quick judgment and decision making; 
  6. Ability to initiate change.

Experience:

Applicants should have at least five (5) years’ experience of Legal Practice.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Establish the strategic direction, design and implement policies and procedures for the overall legal function of the University; 
  2. Lead the defense and prosecution of all University legal actions; 
  3. Advise the University Council on all legal and other matters; 
  4. Provide legal expertise to University departments; 
  5. Provide leadership and manage staff and resources in the Unit /Division; 
  6. Plan and direct all aspects of the University’s legal affairs and protect its legal rights; 
  7. Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures;
  8. Review and draft contracts and agreements in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements; 
  9. Liaise with External Lawyers on all cases that are referred to the Directorate for action; 
  10. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Legal Unit to Management and University Council; 
  11. Interpret laws, rules, regulations and documents for the University and Council.

Special University Entry Examinations for the Diploma in Performing Arts 2026/27

Students from the Department of Performing Arts on 4th April 2025.

The Academic Registrar Makerere University invites applications for the Special University Entry Examinations for admission to the Diploma in Performing Arts.

The examination will take place on Saturday 16th May, 2026.

Application process is online for those intending to sit the examination. Kindly note that there is payment of a non-refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000/- excluding bank charges in any (Stanbic Bank, Dfcu Post Bank, UBA and Centenary Bank). After filling the online application, you will be provided with 2 Past Papers.

To be eligible to sit the examinations, the candidate must possess an O’ Level Certificate (UCE) with at least 5 Passes.

The deadline for receiving the online applications is Tuesday 12th May 2026.

  • Application is online for ALL applicants.
  • Other relevant information can be obtained from Undergraduate Mature Age Office, Level 5, Room 505, Senate Building, Makerere University or can be accessed from https://see.mak.ac.ug
  • A non refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000= for Ugandans, East Africans Applicants (Including S. Sudan & DRC) OR US $ 75 or equivalent for international applicants plus bank charges should be paid in any of the banks used by Uganda Revenue Authority.

Diploma Holders Admission Lists under Government Sponsorship for 2026/2027 AY

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released lists of Diploma holders admitted under the Government Sponsorship Scheme for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

Under the Diploma Holders Government Sponsorship Scheme admission does not exceed 5% of the intake capacity to the respective Degree Programme.

Mature Age Examination Results for 2026/2027 Academic Year

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

Candidates who scored a minimum of 50% passed and have been recommended by the Pre-Entry & Mature Age Committee to the University’s Admissions Committee for consideration.
