Mak Position of Dean of Students

Makerere University is currently governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended) of the Republic of Uganda. The University is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to take up the position of Dean of Students.

  • Salary Scale: M3
  • Age Limit: 55 years
  • Application Deadline: 17:00 Hours (5:00PM) EAT on 7th January 2021

Qualifications:

  1. A Master’s degree in Education, Business Administration or Management; 
  2. An honors Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Social Sciences or Arts or SWASA or Business Administration.

Reports To:

The Dean of Students reports to the Vice Chancellor

Other Essential Requirements

  1. Leadership and supervisory skills;
  2. Ability to build, lead and work with teams;
  3. Computer literacy;
  4. Interpersonal & communication skills;
  5. Quick judgment and decision making;
  6. Ability to initiate change;
  7. Integrity.

Experience:

Minimum of 12 years relevant working experience at least 3 of which must be at senior managerial level.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Dean of Students Provides leadership in all matters relating to students’ welfare and discipline.

  1. Organise and control halls of residence and all matters related to accommodation of both resident and non-resident students;
  2. Supervise and appraise staff in the Department;
  3. Enforce rules and regulations of the University and all matters related to students’ discipline;
  4. Establish and monitor channels of communication in regard to student welfare;
  5. Oversee the operations of the students’ guild and offer guidance;
  6. Oversee the organisation and running of sports and games; 
  7. Prepare annual budget estimates for submission to the finance committee and account for funds of the unit;
  8. Oversee all matters related to students’ health and discipline;
  9. Oversee the operations of the places of worship;
  10. Any other related duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
