Applications are invited from any innovator in sub-Saharan Africa. Innovations must solve a local challenge, and be scalable – and can be at various stages of development.
Applicants do not need to be qualified engineers, and the Prize has in the past seen successful entries from accountants to students as young as 21.
Innovations can be in any engineering disciplines, from software, mechanical, or medical, to civil, electronic or bio-engineering, or a combination.Take a look at previous candidates here.
Once applications are closed, a shortlist of 12 innovations will be chosen. These individuals receive intensive business training tailored to their project, business goals and challenges.
The Royal Academy’s network of support for Africa Prize candidates opens doors to mentors and advice on finding funding, sourcing materials and creating a business model for unique innovations.
The winner of the Africa Prize receives £25,000, and runners-up receive £10,000 each.
