Makerere School of Public Health IDI NOURISH Research PhDs

Two research studentship positions (PhD’s) associated with the Irish Aid-funded NOURISH project available in Trinity College Dublin and linked with the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University and with the School of Public Health at Makerere University

NOURISH (Nutrition and treatment outcomes: development of a Ugandan-Irish HIV/Nutrition Research Cluster) is a research project funded by Irish Aid as part of its programme of Strategic Cooperation with Higher Education and Research Institutes in Ireland and partner countries in Africa. The NOURISH project mainly involves Trinity College University of Dublin in Ireland and Gulu and Makerere universities and the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) and Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) in Uganda.

The research component of NOURISH is divided into three Work Packages (WPs). Of these, WP1 focuses on the role of nutrition as a determinant of treatment outcome for HIV infected adults and children in Uganda, by examining clinical, pharmacological and immunological responses to food supplementation in patients with and without malnutrition. WP1 will take place primarily in IDI and Kampala City Clinics (KCC) but may also take place in other clinics as necessary.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable.
