Faculty of Technology launches Extension Block

Established in 1969, the Faculty of Technology fully opened its doors in 1970 to 26 undergraduate students on three BSc. Programmes Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. At the time, the faculty was accommodated in a building with a  total floor area of 6,000 square meters originally designed to house only the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Over the years, new programmes have been introduced and currently the programmes include One Ordinary Diploma, Ten Undergraduate Degree Programmes, Two Graduate Diploma Programmes, Eleven Master’s Programmed and PhD Programmes with over 2,500 students.

The New extension provides an additional 6000 square meters of space for laboratories, lecture rooms, utilities and staff offices. The extension also accommodates DICTS Offices in a floor area space of 600 square meters. The Norwegian Government provided USD 2,100,000 toward the construction of this building and Makerere University Kampala USD 600,000 to cater for the space to be occupied by DICTS.

Representing H.E. Bjørg S. Leite, The Norwegian Ambassador to Uganda, the Deputy Ambassador H.E Gjermund Sæther, alongside The Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Lilian Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza officially opened the new extension.
