Collaboration between UETCL-CEDAT: CEDAT hosts the collaboration strategy workshop

The College of Engineering, Design, Art, and Technology (CEDAT) entered into a partnership with Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL) as one of the strategies to step up the Industry-Academia Partnership.

CEDAT hosted a 2-day UETCL-CEDAT collaboration strategy workshop from the 6th to the 7th of March 2024 as one of the initial steps in the actualization of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed some time back between the two institutions.

While making opening remarks at the event attended by participants from both CEDAT and UECTL, The Dean, School of Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dorothy Okello noted that the strategy workshop was one of the first fruits of the journey that started with the signing of the MoU with UECTL.  We have used a different approach in how we action this MOU and it will be a more sustainable way, she said, while explaining that the workshop would clarify not only what was to be done in the short term or activity by activity basis but also how to carry this forward on a long term. Makerere University, together with the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development and the Urban Authorities Association of Uganda (UAAU) are set to undertake an urban expansion planning drive that will result in better-planned cities and urban areas in Uganda.

A national workshop on Urban Extension Planning in Uganda financed by Cities Alliance was held on Wednesday 25th April 2024, in the CEDAT Conference Hall during which participants delved into the concept, the principles and importance of urban expansion, and its fundamental stages. They also explored the best practices for Urban Expansion Plan implementation and financial strategies.

Engineers in Academia rallied to register with the Engineers Registration Board

Makerere University Engineering staff who are not Registered Engineers have been urged to utilize the existing opportunity availed through a window specially created by the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) for  Engineers in the Academia.

The Engineering Registration Board has come out to enlist the registration of Engineers in academia, who even though impart knowledge and skills to the engineers, many of them are not themselves Registered Engineers

During an outreach visit to the College of Engineering, Design, Art, and Technology (CEDAT), Thursday 18th April 2024, a team from the Engineering Registration Board interacted with Makerere University staff in the engineering field drawn from the Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and Software Engineering among others.
