Call for Applications: Master of Public Health Disaster Management

The Academic Registrar Makerere University invites applications for Master of Public Health Disaster Management (MDM) Programme.

The goal of Master of Public Health Disaster Management (MDM) is to develop adequate capacity for effective public health disaster management and risk reduction in Uganda and Africa.

With a curriculum developed by field staff from humanitarian, academia and international organizations, participants are exposed to enriching concepts like Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction, Nutrition in Emergencies, Environmental Health in Disaster Situations, Mental health and Psychosocial Issues in Disaster Situations among others.

MDM is open to Ugandans and non-Ugandans who fulfill the admission requirements. The requirements described below are only the minimum academic conditions for admission and only make one eligible. A candidate is eligible for admission if s/he satisfies any of the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in health sciences, e.g. human medicine or nursing, from a recognised institution 
  2. A degree in biological sciences from a recognised institution, e.g. food science and technology, human nutrition and environmental health. .
  3. A degree in arts or social sciences from a recognised institution, e.g. community psychology, SWASA, and at least a credit in mathematics at the Ordinary level of education.
  4. Field experience is an added advantage
  5. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed prior to selection.

Upon completion, personnel trained through this programme are expected to have the skills to work as managers of disaster/emergency programmes within Ministries of Health, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, UN and NGOs at national and sub-national levels and are qualified to become emergency health researchers in research institutions and lecturers in Universities. 

Career and professional growth opportunities include continuation of studies into PhD programmes,   specialisation in specific emergency health management and disaster risk reduction.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
