Mak-Sida: Gender Mainstreaming Project PhD and Masters Scholarships

The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, Makerere University invites applications for Scholarships to the PhD and Masters degree programmes for the Academic 2017/2018

Project title: "Enhancement of Gender Focused Research Capacity Building of Women in Leadership and Gender Mainstreaming in Higher Education in Uganda" Project No. : 2391- Uganda

Application and Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarships
CATEGORY 1: PhD SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STAFF FROM MAKERERE AND THE PARTNER PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES (1 Position)
Funding is available for Ph.D Scholarships targeting staff from the five Public Universities. These scholarships are tenable at Makerere University. The general admission requirements of Makerere University will apply, however, other eligibility requirements include:
1. Possession of a Master’s degree from a recognised University
2. The Concept/proposal should be relevant to women and gender studies and will generate new gender/feminist knowledge

CATERGORY 2: MASTER DEGREE SCHOLARSHIPSFOR STAFF FROM MAKERERE AND THE PARTNER PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES (4 Positions)
Staff development scholarships from Busitema, Gulu, Kyambogo, Makerere, and Mbarara Universities are available for Master Degree programmes tenable at either Makerere University or any other partner public university in Uganda starting Academic year 2017/2018. The general application requirements of the prospective public University will apply, however, other eligibility requirements include:
i. Evidence of admission to the Master degree programme at either Makerere University or any other partner public university
ii. Interest in mainstreaming gender in parent discipline
iii. Evidence of employment at the partner public University

3. Funding available only up to June 2020.

Special University Entry Examinations for the Diploma in Performing Arts 2026/27

Students from the Department of Performing Arts on 4th April 2025.

The Academic Registrar Makerere University invites applications for the Special University Entry Examinations for admission to the Diploma in Performing Arts.

The examination will take place on Saturday 16th May, 2026.

Application process is online for those intending to sit the examination. Kindly note that there is payment of a non-refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000/- excluding bank charges in any (Stanbic Bank, Dfcu Post Bank, UBA and Centenary Bank). After filling the online application, you will be provided with 2 Past Papers.

To be eligible to sit the examinations, the candidate must possess an O’ Level Certificate (UCE) with at least 5 Passes.

The deadline for receiving the online applications is Tuesday 12th May 2026.

How to Apply

  • Application is online for ALL applicants.
  • Other relevant information can be obtained from Undergraduate Mature Age Office, Level 5, Room 505, Senate Building, Makerere University or can be accessed from https://see.mak.ac.ug
  • A non refundable application fee of Shs. 110,000= for Ugandans, East Africans Applicants (Including S. Sudan & DRC) OR US $ 75 or equivalent for international applicants plus bank charges should be paid in any of the banks used by Uganda Revenue Authority.

Diploma Holders Admission Lists under Government Sponsorship for 2026/2027 AY

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released lists of Diploma holders admitted under the Government Sponsorship Scheme for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

Under the Diploma Holders Government Sponsorship Scheme admission does not exceed 5% of the intake capacity to the respective Degree Programme.

Mature Age Examination Results for 2026/2027 Academic Year

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

Candidates who scored a minimum of 50% passed and have been recommended by the Pre-Entry & Mature Age Committee to the University’s Admissions Committee for consideration.
