Attention: Makerere University Students
Warm greetings from Makerere University Public Relations Office!
With reference to the article that was published in the DAILY MONITOR titled, Makerere to change 80 courses, and indicating that some courses are to be scrapped, the clarification is as follows:
1. It is true that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu accorded an interview to the Daily Monitor regarding the restructuring/merger of academic programmes.
2. It is also true that the Committee that was tasked to restructure academic programmes is still doing its work.
3. HOWEVER, it is important to note that the DECISION WILL NOT AFFECT THE STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED ON THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES BEING PROPOSED FOR RESTRUCTURING OR MERGING.
The Vice Chancellor further clarifies;
"I know that the Committee that was tasked to restructure academic programmes is doing its work. On completion of the task, the Committee will submit its Report to the Makerere University Senate-the Chief academic organ of the University for further discussion.
We are also aware that students are currently enrolled on some of the academic programmes being proposed for restructuring/merging. As is the normal practice, students currently enrolled on these academic programmes will not be affected.
The decision that will be undertaken by the Makerere University Senate and Council on restructuring of academic programmes will be applicable to students joining Makerere University in the Academic Year 2016/2017. Its implementation will start with First Year Students scheduled to join Makerere University in August 2016."
WE BUILD FOR THE FUTURE.
