Training Opportunity in GIS Based Soil Erosion Risk Modelling

Makerere University (Uganda), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, BOKU (Austria) and other partners are implementing a joint project entitled “Capacity building on the water-energy-food security Nexus through research and training in Kenya and Uganda” (CapNex). The aim of this project is to strengthen the capacities of young researchers from Uganda, Kenya and Austrian Universities to cope with challenges associated to water quality and quantity, energy provision and food security in East Africa. The project is funded by the Austrian government through the APPEAR programme of the Austrian Development Cooperation. Other partners on the project are TU Wien and TU Kenya. Under the framework of the project, a GISBased Erosion Modelling short course was conceived and will be implemented at Makerere University.

Training

The thrust of the short course is to equip participants with GIS skills for modelling soil erosion risk. The training will introduce participants into environmental modelling of spatial data using the open source software R.

Application

The training will be limited to 20 participants. Those interested in the training should send a one page application by email indicating your academic and professional background as well as motivation for participating. Send your application to: geog[at]caes.mak.ac.ug by Sunday 17th February 2019.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
