Makerere University was once again basking in the Belgorod limelight when on the morning of Thursday 18th May 2017, The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration)-Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe was bestowed upon the title Honorary Professor of the Belgorod State Technical University (BSTU), Russia by the Rector of the University, Prof. Sergei Glagolev. Prof. Nawangwe was accorded this Honour for his role in the development of internationalization of higher education globally.

Reacting to the honorary ceremony, Prof. Nawangwe said “I feel very much humbled by this recognition and I pledge to continue working towards the internationalization of our beloved University and the creation of more partnerships.”

BSTU has a long and rich tradition of honouring individuals who in one way or another have contributed to the betterment of humanity. In October 2012, a delegation from Makerere University led by then Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Prof. Sandy Stevens Tickodri Togboa, accompanied by then Principal College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT)-Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and Prof. Tom Otiti-Physics among others visited BSTU. On Thursday, 4th October 2012, BSTU awarded Prof. Tom Otiti an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his research on Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
