The African Natural Products Research and Training Network (AFNNET) through the Regional Initiative in Science Education (RISE) has received a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to enhance the research and training capabilities of participating Universities in the area of natural products. RISE-AFNNET’s mission is to drive transformative science, technology, innovations and partnership engagement services for the continuous improvement of community wellbeing and inclusive socioeconomic growth.
RISE-AFNNET therefore invites applications for funding (up to USD 5,000) from suitably qualified MSc students indicating their training’s benefit(s) to the University, Government department(s) or private sector.
Eligibility;
The applicants MUST possess the following upon application;
- Evidence of MSc coursework completion
- Proof of registration as a Makerere University student
- MSc research proposal in any area of natural products value chains plus evidence of proposal approval by the College Higher Degrees Committee.
- Letter of support from the Head of Department where the student is registered.
Additional information;
Data collection and dissertations must be completed by June 30th 2015 after which date no costs may be incurred on the grant.

Review and Selection of Applications;
Eligible proposals will be submitted to a review panel of reviewers appointed by RISE-AFNNET. Based on the recommendations from the reviewers a final recommendation will be made to the RISE-AFNNET Steering Committee for funding.
Applicants will be informed by email by 17th May 2014.
