The PhD Research in IT-enabled local knowledge sharing will be conducted at Makerere University under the Department of Electrical Engineering, with a period as a visiting scholar at a partner university abroad.
The candidate is expected to study the consequences for information and knowledge sharing when beneficiaries are difficult to reach, and to analyse potentials for introducing information and communication technologies that allow for more interactivity as well as opportunities to share contextual (rural) relevant knowledge. It will focus on mobile technologies and community ICT projects, complemented by social media, as these are recognized as relevant methods for addressing challenges entrenched in structural aspects of knowledge sharing.
Potential candidates are requested to submit the following:
- Research statement outlining your interest in the study area, relevant academic/research background, key issues to be addressed for such a study, and proposed methodology (not to exceed 3 pages)
- Cover letter indicating availability to participate in planning meeting scheduled for mid-end January 2011 and availability to embark on PhD program in July 2011.
