The Call for Applications for the 2018 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Regional Fellowships is now open. The fellowships aims to promote and encourage young African women in Science. Its programmes reward reputable women scientists whose outstanding accomplishments have contributed to the progression of scientific knowledge and of its benefits to the society.

The programme identifies and honours talented young female scientists in the fields of life sciences as well as physical sciences (such as biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, neurosciences, biotechnologies) and physical Sciences (such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, and earth and universe sciences).

This prestigious programme awards 14 annual fellowships12 to PhD students enrolled in an African institution,  and 2 to post-docs working in a laboratory or research institute registered in one of the region’s countries – of Euro 5000 and 10,000, respectively.

To be eligible, candidates must be nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country who have received their PhD in the life or physical sciences or are pursuing studies leading to a PhD degree, and must be enrolled or employed in a research university or institution in the region. They must be no more than 40 years old by the end of the application period for the PhD fellowship and not more than 45 for the post-doctoral fellowship.

Aptitude Exam (Paper 1) Results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme 2026/2027

The Office of Academic Registrar, Makerere University has released Aptitude Test Examination results for the Mature Age Entry Scheme Examinations held on Saturday 13th December 2025.

The Candidates who scored 50% and above in the aptitude test passed the aptitude examination and will have their programme -specific examination paper marked. Those who scored less than 50% failed.

The Academic Registrar, Makerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral Degree Programmes) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Applicants should have obtained at least a first or second class degree (or its equivalent) from a Chartered University at the time of completion. Applicants should also possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (or its equivalent) and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (or its equivalent).

Sponsorship:

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY-SPONSORED. Therefore, applicants seeking sponsorship should have their applications endorsed by their respective sponsors where applicable. Applicants should note that the various fees payable to the University indicated for the various programmes EXCLUDE functional fees, accommodation, books, research and other expenses.
