Public Mental Health Graduate courses by Distance Learning

Stellenbosch University is planning to offer two new academic teaching programmes at the Centre for Public Mental Health (CPMH) from January 2012:
 a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Mental Health,
 a MPhil in Public Mental Health

These distance learning courses are the first of their kind on the African continent. The Centre is a
joint initiative of the Department of Psychology at the University of Stellenbosch and the Department
of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town. The two departments have
established the Centre as an independent, inter-disciplinary academic research and teaching centre
for public mental health promotion and service development in Africa. This is in recognition of the
need to prioritise mental health on the public health agenda; to develop professional mental health
capacity; and to develop policy, service and legislative frameworks to scale up systems of mental
health care in Africa.

The establishment of this Centre has been strongly supported by the WHO Department of Mental
Health and Substance Abuse in Geneva, the WHO African Regional office in Brazzaville, and a
number of national and international experts in the field.

Stellenbosch would like to gauge the level of interest in the courses, Kindly fill in the form (See downloads for details) and return to ereshia@sun.ac.za, by 3 June 2011.
