The Director of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Regional Office for Africa, Ms. Beate Schindler-Kovats on Thursday 28th November, 2019 paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and urged Makerere University to intensify her networks with regional universities so as to form a block.

The Libyan Ambassador to Uganda has this afternoon paid a courtesy call on me for the first time. The Ambassador and I have discussed opportunities for collaboration between Makerere University and the Embassy of Libya, as well as with universities in Libya.

I have held a wonderful discussion with Ms. Beate Schindler-Kovats, Director of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Regional Office for Africa based in Nairobi. We have discussed opportunities for collaboration between Makerere and DAAD as well as Makerere and German universities.

FDRE Parliament Delegation Visits Mak, Advocates for Public Diplomacy Group

A delegation from the Parliament accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) on Wednesday 27th November 2019 visited Makerere University and held talks on the need to establish a Uganda Public Diplomacy Group among a wide range of other issues. The delegation led by Hon. Tesfaye Daba – Chairman, Peace and Foreign Relations Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the FDRE was received by a special session of Management held in the Council Room.

Mak shines at 2nd International Symposium on Community Health Workers in Bangladesh

The Second International Symposium on Community Health Workers (CHWs) was recently held from 22nd to 24th November 2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This symposium, organised by icddr,b, (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh) was attended by over 500 delegates including researchers, policy makers, funders, implementers, health practitioners, academics and CHWs from 35 countries.

CEDAT Students Win Euros75,000 Climate Change Grant

A team of 5 students code named VEPOX, have won a grant of Euros75,000 (UGX 300million) for an innovation that addresses water quality in rural areas. The team designed a water filtration technology code-named Vepox Filter that uses activated Carbon and Functionalized sand in order to make water from surface water sources portable for drinking especially in rural areas.

The students participated in the ClimateLaunchpad Global Competition held in the Netherlands on November 14 and 15, 2019.

The delegation was accompanied by H.E Mr. Bandar Al Faifi, The Chargé d'Affaires of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Uganda.
