Amb. Lindgarde Lauds Govt UGX30Bn Support to Mak Research

The Ambassador of Sweden to Uganda, H.E. Per Lindgärde has lauded the Government of Uganda’s recent allocation of UGX30Billion to support research at Makerere University, noting that this was a “testimony of recognizing the critical role that home-grown research plays in the development of Uganda as articulated in the NDP (National Development Plan) and Vision 2040.”

A delegation from the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), a network of 118 universities across 38 countries in Africa paid a courtesy call on the Vice President and Acting President of the Republic of Zambia Her Excellency Inonge Wina in Lusaka on 25th September 2019.  This Courtesy call was part of the agenda for the three day Zambia Higher Education Week activities held from 23rd -25th September 2019.

MakRun 2019 Raises Over UGX100Million

The third edition of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Run (MakRun) 2019 was held on Sunday, 15th September 2019 and with the help of staff, students, well-wishers and corporate companies raised a total of UGX 101,745,000/= (One hundred and one million, seven hundred and fortyfive thousand shillings only) in both cash and pledges.

MakRun 2019 was made possible thanks to support from: dfcu Bank, Post Bank, UBA, Housing Finanice Bank, Coca Cola Beverages Africa and Rwenzori Bottling Company.

DRGT Wins US$1million Carnegie Research Grant

At its meeting of September 12, 2019, the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Corporation of New York approved a grant to the tune of US$1,000,000.00 to the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT). The award followed a successful appraisal of our proposal “Supporting Early-Career Academics at Makerere University”. The grant will run from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2021.

The President of Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has invited Makerere researchers to Statehouse after the Independence Anniversary celebrations in October 2019 to discuss how the University's technologies and innovations can be scaled up to cause transformation in the agricultural sector.

For the last 30 years, the Department of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University has been involved in the training of a critical mass of journalism and communication professionals. Over the years, we have expanded our academic programmes from bachelors to masters and doctoral degree awards. We have also been involved in cutting-edge research and publishing in the fields of media, journalism and communication as well as community outreach. We are currently one of the recognised UNESCO Centres of Excellence in journalism training on the African continent.
