Go for the Ball: Hon Muyingo to HERS-EA 3rd Academy Graduates

The week-long Higher Education Resource Services-East Africa (HERS-EA) Third Academy closed on a high note on Friday, 5th July 2019 with the State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo urging graduates not to wait for the ball to come to them but to go for it instead. The State Minister noted that by empowering female leaders with skills in grant writing, gender- responsive budgeting, research and publishing and other areas, HERS-EA was moving in the right direction and preparing women to “go for the ball.”

Boost for Business Incubation as Mak Breaks Ground for FTBIC Phase II

Makerere University on Friday, 5th July 2019 broke ground for Phase II of the Food Technology and Business Incubation Centre (FTBIC) at the School of Food Technology, Nutrition and Bio-engineering (SFTNB), College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). Upon completion, the facility will allocate 1,200 of the total 7,000square metres space to the FTBIC; a huge boost to the current 1,200square metres completed under Phase I.

Mak Launches CAD2.7million NutriFish Project

The Harnessing dietary nutrients of under-utilised fish and fish-based products in Uganda (NutriFish) project was launched on the 27th June 2019 by the Principal, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), Prof. Bernard Bashaasha the who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe. The Principal Investigator of NutriFish is Dr. Jackson Efitre, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Sciences.

Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has set up technology on greenhouse automation and growing of crops without using soil. The medium of growth is coco peat imported from Sri Linka. Alternatively, sand or sterilized soils can be used instead of the coco peat.
