Notes for Contributors to the Uganda Journal of Education

Students of Vocational Education paint the Department of Science Technical and Vocational Education (DSTVE) building, CEES as part of their hands-on practical training on 9th May 2019. The students are admitted to the Makerere University Centre for Lifelong Learning as part of the collaboration with the Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB).

The Uganda Journal of Education (UJE) is a peer-reviewed journal hosted by the College of Education and External Studies, Institute of Education Research Makerere University. It seeks critical reviews and in-depth analyses or study findings in all areas of education.  UJE serves as a communication medium among education professionals, policy makers, researchers, students and the community.

UNMA May 2019 Rainfall Outlook

The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) on 6th May 2019 released a review of the rainfall performance for April 2019 and the rainfall outlook for May 2019. A summary of the review reveals that the month of April 2019 was generally characterised by an improvement in rainfall conditions over most parts of the country. However, some parts of Western and Lake Victoria basin received more rainfall compared to other regions in the country.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe on Friday, 10th May 2019 briefly interacted with staff from the Academic Registrar (AR)’s Department led by the Academic Registrar, Mr. Alfred Masikye Namoah. The interface was aimed at enhancing service delivery to students, alumni and members of the public.

"You are doing a commendable job, but I would like you to do more. We are here to interact and come up with some new ideas in a bid to serve the students, alumni, staff and other stakeholders better," said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

Makerere University female staff have been urged to actively participate in the leadership activities of the institution. This was at the Gender and Leadership training; held on 7th May 2019, in the Upper Senate Conference Hall, Makerere University. According to Dr. Rhoda Wanyenze, the Dean School of Public Health- Makerere University, there is need for both female Administrative and Academic staff to access and actively participate in the decision-making processes if they are to realize gender equity at Makerere University.

Google has announced Makerere University’s AirQo Prototype among the best 20 Artificial Intelligence projects that will share $25 million in grants from Google.org. AirQo is an air monitoring project that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and low-cost technologies to generate and quantify data on air pollution in the designated areas in Uganda.

The first edition of the RAN Innovation Fireplace kicked off on the evening of Friday, May 3rd 2019. The Innovation Fireplace in real sense had participants sit around a fire to chat and learn from Ugandan entrepreneurs and was guided by the theme: “In-building Scale from the on-set”. These events are a platform that RAN is providing to the ecosystem of innovators and entrepreneurs to engage and discuss critical topics that are pertinent to their ventures.
