UNMA Explains Current Dry Spell Conditions over Most of Uganda

The 1967 Government dam that was rehabilitated by Makerere University under the WATERCARP project in 2011. The valley dam sustains over 1,000 cattle from seven parishes in Wanzogi sub-County, Nakasongola District throughout the dry season.

The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has attributed the dry spell conditions being experienced in most parts of Uganda to the tropical cyclone (storm) codenamed IDAI. The storm which has been over the Mozambique Channel has been associated with heavy rains and winds of up to 170km/h made landfall on the coastal port city of Beira in Mozambique on 14th March 2019 with devastating impacts on human life and property in both Mozambique and Malawi.

CHUSS benchmarks Centres on Teaching and Learning

With support of a Planning Grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) is undertaking study visits to research Centres on Teaching and Learning in universities in South Africa and the United States. The purpose of the visits is to benchmark best practices from these centres, which will inform the establishment of a similar Centre in the College and at Makerere University.

Call For Applications: RENU Industrial Training Program

The Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) is welcoming applications for Industrial Training in Engineering, and Finance and Administration. The program will run from 1st June 2019 till 31st July 2019.

For this year’s program, only students from the following courses will be admitted;

Engineering courses (only female applicants to be admitted);
1. Bsc. Telecommunications Engineering (Year 3)
2. Bsc. Computer Engineering (Year 3)
3. Bsc. Software Engineering (Year 3)
4. Bsc. Computer Science (Year 2)

Under the auspices of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship programme (CADFP), the College of Education and External Studies (CEES), Makerere University is hosting Prof. Paulina Kuforiji, visiting professor of Instructional Technology from Columbus State University. CADFP is a fellowship program for African institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda to host an African-born scholar to work in projects in research collaboration, graduate student teaching/mentoring and curriculum co-development.

This was at the Departmental Refresher Seminar held on 14th and 15th March 2019 at Hotel Africana; to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of roles and responsibilities as well as aligning the Department to suit the Collegiate system.

In order to build a strong research and publication culture in the Institute of Open, Distance and elearning, the Institute held another Academic Writing Workshop in School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Conference Facility on Friday, 15th March 2018.

A number of draft chapters were presented and it is anticipated that at the end of these workshops on March 26, 2019, all chapters will be put together as a book for publication in a reputable journal

It was a moment of joy when the former Manager, Staff Training and Development, Welfare and Retirement Benefits, Mrs. Dorothy Sennoga-Zake accompanied by her family joined staff from the Directorate of Human Resources (DHR) and other invited guests to celebrate her dedicated service to Makerere University. The farewell party was held at the Makerere University Guest House Gardens on Thursday, 14th March 2019.
