Mak-MKU Expand Joint Collaboration to Institutional Level

Makerere University and Mount Kenya University (MKU) on Monday, 14th January 2019 officially expanded their collaboration to institutional level following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Signed on behalf of Mak by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and on behalf of MKU by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stanley Waudo, the MoU is a follow-up of an earlier one signed on 19th September 2017 between the two institutions’ Colleges of Health Sciences.

The Programme Director, International Higher Education and Strategic Projects at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Dr. Saleem Badat has visited Makerere University to follow up on the grants given to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) in 2018. In 2017, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation approved a grant worth USD5million to the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for a period of five years.

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), Makerere University in partnership with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) and the Soybean Innovation Lab through the Partnerships for Seed Technology Transfer in Africa (PASTTA) project on 3rd and 5th January 2019 conducted soybean field days at Mubuku Irrigation Scheme in Kasese and Ngetta ZARDI in Lira respectively. A total of 35 soybean varieties from across Africa were being evaluated; dubbed Pan African Soybean trial.

The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT) in partnership with the School of Statistics, College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) led by Prof. Leonard Atuhaire on Monday, 7th January 2018 commenced a 3-week training course in the practical application of statistics for analysis of research data. The course revisits standard statistical techniques together with comprehensive hands on illustration of their application using a standard statistical package (e.g. STATA).
