Mak 69th Graduation Kicks Off: President Museveni Honoured

The President of the Republic of Uganda and Visitor of Makerere University-H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (3rd L), First Lady-Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni (2nd L), Hon. Daniel Fred Kidega (2nd R), Vice Chancellor-Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe (4th R) and the Mace bearer (R) on Day1 of the 69th Graduation Ceremony. President Museveni received Mak's Outstanding Scholarly Authorship Award

Makerere University has awarded the President of the Republic of Uganda and Visitor, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with her Outstanding Scholarly Authorship Award. Handed over to him by the Makerere University Chancellor, Prof. Ezra Suruma during the first session of the 69th Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, 15th January 2019, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was recognized for his authorship of Katondoozi, the first ever Thesaurus in the sub-Saharan region.

Maths teachers urged to adopt modern methods of teaching to enhance students’ abilities

The Director for Education Standards in the Ministry of Education and Sports Dr. Kedress Turyagyenda, has urged mathematics teachers and trainers to adopt the recently developed technologies of teaching to enhance students’ abilities of learning mathematics. This was at the closing ceremony of the 10 days residential training of primary and secondary Mathematics teachers from Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania; held on 11th January 2019 at Makerere University.

The Outgoing Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS), Prof. Edward K. Kirumira on the 14th January, 2018 handed over to the Acting Principal Dr. Josephine Ahikire. The handover ceremony held in the Literature Resource Centre was presided over by the Director Human Resource, Mr. Andrew Abunyang. It was witnessed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, Dr. Umar Kakumba; the Director Legal Affairs, Mr. Henry Mwebe; the Director Internal Audit, Mr. Walter Yorac Nono, and Deans and senior administrative staff of CHUSS.

Makerere University and Mount Kenya University (MKU) on Monday, 14th January 2019 officially expanded their collaboration to institutional level following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Signed on behalf of Mak by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and on behalf of MKU by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stanley Waudo, the MoU is a follow-up of an earlier one signed on 19th September 2017 between the two institutions’ Colleges of Health Sciences.

The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT) in partnership with the School of Statistics, College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) led by Prof. Leonard Atuhaire on Monday, 7th January 2018 commenced a 3-week training course in the practical application of statistics for analysis of research data. The course revisits standard statistical techniques together with comprehensive hands on illustration of their application using a standard statistical package (e.g. STATA).

On 7th January 2019, Makerere University together with the China University of Petroleum (UPC) signed an agreement to co-establish and operationalize the Institute of Geoscience and Petroleum at Makerere University.
