Winners of the 2018 RUFORUM Young African Entrepreneurs Competition Announced

The RUFORUM Secretariat, Makerere University, Kampala Uganda

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is pleased to announce the 23 winners of the 2018 RUFORUM Young African Entrepreneurs Competition.  The competition attracted a total of 1,332 applicants from 42 African and 4 non-African countries. The following process was undertaken to identify the top 23 winners for the 2018 cohort:

The Embassy of France in Uganda in partnership with Makerere University, Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Alliance Française de Kampala (AFK), UN Women, Uganda and the Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (iRiS) is organizing the Kampala Geopolitics Conference. Scheduled to take place from 26th to 27th October 2018, the two-day conference aims at creating an interactive and dynamic platform for dialogue and free exchange of ideas cutting across contemporary local and international issues.

Makerere University-Uganda Industrial Research Institute Partnership: A Good Deal for Ugandan Potato Growing Communities

In Uganda, value addition that is very critical in upgrading the entire potato value chain remains limited. Benefits of value addition include the preservation of surpluses from one season to another, easy handling of products during storage and transportation, reduction of transportation costs and production of convenience foods in response to changing lifestyles, and availing products with improved nutritional content.

CAES Acquires another Agricultural Tractor Worth US$26,500

Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) has acquired another MASCOR John Deere agricultural tractor worth US$26,500 (approximately shs.98, 050,000).

The tractor was purchased using college resources mainly from the project overheads.

The four wheel drive John Deere Agricultural Machinery, model 5075E with 75HP can be attached on a variety of farm implements including ploughs, harrows, planters, bailers and forage harvesters among others.

Prof. Kaaya Wins AU Agent of Change for Aflatoxin Control Award 2018

Makerere University’s Senior nutritionist Prof. Archileo Kaaya has been selected for the African Union (AU) Award 2018 as an Agent of change for Aflatoxin Control in Africa by the Third Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA). Prof. Kaaya will be recognized during the Third PACA Partnership Platform Meeting to be held from 2nd to 4th October 2018, in Dakar, Senegal.
