Mak Council Tours Research Facilities at MUARIK

At the climax of the 143rd meeting of the University Council held on Thursday, 6th September 2018, at the Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute in Kabanyolo (MUARIK), the University Council toured a number of onsite research centres and facilities to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the developments in teaching and learning, research and innovations as well as knowledge transfer partnerships and networking.

MaRCCI Set to Receive Gates Foundation US$565,026 to Promote Cassava Breeding

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has injected US$565,026 (approx UGX2.1bn) into Makerere University’s Regional Centre for Crop improvement (MaRCCI) to promote cassava breeding in addition to similar efforts in cowpea and sorghum. The funds will be channeled through the Cornell University under the next generation cassava project.

Dr. Richard Edema the Director MaRCCI confirmed this and said that the funds are part of the second phase of funding to MaRCCI from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

IAA partners with Makerere University ahead of the 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship 2018

IAA Healthcare has partnered with the Makerere University to provide world-class medical services during the 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship 2018. The package that includes a fully equipped Ambulance that will be working 24/7, a team of well-trained personnel and other medical support was announced by the IAA Healthcare Sales Manager Mr. Aurthur Esimat at the Press Conference that was held on 5th September 2018, at IAA Healthcare offices.

World University Netball Championships - September 17 to 21

Sri Lanka just can’t wait for the World University Netball Championships to start.

The Asian state that will be making a maiden appearance at the biennial event arrive in Uganda on September 16.

Head coach Wijayaguaratne Henge and his assistant Surenthini Sithamparanathan will lead the delegation that also has 12 players.

23 Public Private Partnership Students Complete Course at CEDAT

About twenty-three students completed a rigorous two-week short course on Public Private Partnership conducted at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. The students, who were drawn from UNRA, NITA, Mulago Hospital and other private organizations successfully completed the course on 30th August, 2018.

Applications for the Gates Cambridge Scholarships at the University of Cambridge for the October 2019 entry are now open.

These are full-cost scholarships for study any subject at the postgraduate level at the University of Cambridge that are available to citizens of countries other than the United Kingdom.

A delegation from the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) was on Thursday 23 August 2018 received by His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, Malawi. The purpose of the visit was to update His Excellency about RUFORUM’s progress in implementing His Excellency’s agenda related to higher education in Africa as well as deliberate on issues affecting higher education space in Africa.

World University Netball Championships - September 17 to 21

The 2018 World University Netball Championship has drawn up interesting battles among some of the highly rated netball playing countries in the World.
 
According to the draws that were conducted on Monday at the headquarters of international university sports, based on the University of Lausanne, the hosts were placed in a potentially explosive Pool A that also has USA, Singapore and rivals Kenya.
