Mak Arena Ready For Championship

World University Netball Championship - September 17 to 21

After a long spell of suspense, the venue for the third World University Netball Championship is finally ready.

The Makerere University facility that started being constructed in August had raised doubts about its readiness for the weeklong event.

“I can assure you that the facility will be ready,” stated Penninah Kabenge, a local organising committee member and Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) President.

USA, Six Others Arrive for World University Netball Championship

World University Netball Championship - September 17 to 21

Team USA, and six other countries have arrived for the World University Netball Championship.

The USA arrived in Kampala on Friday, hours after Singapore had touched down in Uganda.

USA finished last at the two earlier events; in South Africa in 2012 and at the 2016 edition in Miami, Florida.

Reigning World University Netball champions South Africa have named their team for the forthcoming championship.

The Spar Proteas, as the team is popularly known, is made up of: Alicia Puren, Chante Louw, Chantelle Swart, Lungile Mthembu, Nicole Taljaard, Nobulele Phuza, Sikholiwe Mdletshe, Stephenie Brandt Tshina Mdau, Jasmine Ziegelmeier and Jeante Strydom.

Edible Insects – An Overlooked Solution to Malnutrition

The most important value chains critical to the alleviation of malnutrition including edible insects, are often the most underrated.

These were the remarks of Ms. Dorothy Murugu, a nutritionist and public health consultant during a session on Healthy Diets which sought to explore innovations, developments and prospects in nutrition while at the same time lay the foundation for knowledge and experience sharing.

World University Netball Championships - September 17 to 21

After missing out on the last World University Netball Championships, Zimbabwe are back.

Zimbabwe featured in the inaugural edition in South Africa, but failed to make it to the second edition in Miami, USA.

They recently confirmed their participation and this week named their team for the September 17 to 21 event at Makerere University.

USA is a superpower, but when it gets to netball, they concede they aren’t anywhere close to giants.

Netball America boss Sonya Ottaway says that for that reason they will use the forthcoming World University Netball Championships as a development project.

Most of our girls have been only playing netball for a few months, the team have never even played one game together yet,” wrote Ottaway.
