Makerere University’s prolific Plant Breeder Prof. Phinehas Tukamuhabwa has won the Biotechnology Award 2018 during the first Annual Biotechnology Awards ceremony by the Uganda Biotechnology and Biosafesty Consortium (UBBC) on Wednesday, 19th September 2018.

The award is in honor of his immense contribution to socio- economic development through biotechnology, scientific research and innovations.

World University Netball Championship - September 17 to 21

USA are yet to win from four matches, but that is not about to dampen their spirits.

They have exhibited remarkable improvement after every game and almost even pulled off a win against Kenya Wednesday.

At one point, they led before eventually succumbing to a fourth defeat in the third World University Netball Championships at Makerere.

Our heartfelt consideration goes out to the family upon the loss of a loving Husband, Father, Mentor, Son and dear friend. Please accept our sincere condolences. We commit you to God our Father, who alone knows the plans He has for each and every one of us.

On the Friday afternoon of September 14th, 2018, Assoc. Prof. Nazarius Mbona Tumwesigye stepped down as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics which is in Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), paving way for Assoc. Prof. Noah Kiwanuka to succeed him. The well-attended ceremony which took in MakSPH Boardroom had a representative from the University administration, the Dean of MakSPH, Assoc. Prof. Rhoda Wanyenze , and representatives of the Chairs of the other departments in MakSPH.

World University Netball Championship - September 17 to 21

African teams have taken a commanding lead in the third World University Netball Championships at Makerere University.

Hosts Uganda, defending champions South Africa and Zimbabwe are beating all opposition in the weeklong event at one of Africa’s oldest universities.

Uganda was in superb form on Tuesday beating neighbours Kenya 105-15 and Singapore 77-19 at Makerere’s new Indoor Sports Facility.

The Tiny Potato Tubers: A Nightmare for Farmers in Uganda

Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is one of the main crops grown in Uganda. Most of the production (87%) takes place in the highland areas of South-western region where the crop has become prominently important as a source of food and income for the smallholder farmers. However, the reality that many of us are unaware of is that not all the tubers farmers currently harvest are of any economic value.

Defending champions South Africa and hosts Uganda commanded the spotlight as they both thrashed netball new comers USA.

Uganda’s university students turned up in big numbers at Makerere’s new indoor arena.

Upholding RAN’s steady progress, it is gratifying to share that since Monday, 10th through Friday, 14th September, 2018, part of the RAN team including Dr. Roy William Mayega; RAN Deputy Chief of Party, Dr. Dorothy Okello; Director Innovation and Harriet Adong, Communications Manager are participated in the Long-term Assistance and Services for Research (LASER-PULSE) Launch Workshop. This first ever engagement brought together 20 partners working on the LASER-PULSE research grant was convened by Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana USA.
