Chinese Embassy awards 30 Scholarships to Makerere University students

 The Ambassador of China to Uganda, H.E. Zheng Zhuaiang, handing over the cheque to  the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Prof. William Bazeyo. Present were the State Minister for Higher Education Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo and  the Acting Director of Gender Mainstreaming, Dr. Euzobia M. Baine.

The Embassy of China to Uganda has awarded two categories Scholarships; the Ambassador’s Award for Excellence and the Ambassador’s Award for Friendship to Makerere University continuing students. Officially launched by the State Minister for Higher Education Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo on behalf of the Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, the Scholarships Award was received by the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Prof. William Bazeyo on 8th August 2018.

World University Netball Championships - September 17 to 21

USA are seriously eyeing their first major netball title.

After serious preparations, they became the first country this week to confirm their arrival for the World University Netball Championships.

They will be here on September 14 for the September 17 to 21 event at Makerere University.

Village Agent Technical Training Workshop for M-Omulimisa Innovation Project

From 1st to 3rd August 2018, M-Omulimisa together with other partners convened a 3 day training workshop in Lira District of Northern Uganda. This was in preparation for the implementation of community activities in the upcoming farming season.  The training was meant to equip village agents with resources (knowledge and technical skills) to be able to serve the targeted smallholder farmers.

‘Say No to sexual harassment’, Mak Administrators advise freshers

The Acting Director of Makerere University Gender and Mainstreaming, Dr. Euzobia Mugisha Baine has urged the incoming students to openly defy the sexual harassment vice and stand strong for their academic rights. This was during the Makerere University Freshers’ Orientation Meeting held on 6th August 2018 to welcome the new students for the Academic year 2018/2019.

Speaking to thousands of freshers in the Makerere University Freedom Square, Dr. Mugisha Baine encouraged students to acquaint themselves with the Makerere University Policy and Regulations against Sexual Harassment.

Press Release: USAID Commits $24 Million to Establish Research Technical Assistance Center

The ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) Offices, Plot 30, Upper Kololo Terrace, School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences (CHS), Makerere University, Kampala Uganda

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed up to $24 million to establish a Research Technical Assistance Center (RTAC) at the University of Chicago's independent research organization, NORC. The RTAC is a new award under the portfolio of USAID's Higher Education Solutions Network program, and will run from 2018 until 2022.

From 31st July through 1st August, 2018, the ResilientAfrica Network (RAN), Makerere University facilitated a Fellowship Training in Research Methods for 10 innovators who are part of the 5 incubations currently receiving capacity building support from the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) in Uganda. This is the second phase of this Fellowship Training.

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe elucidates the relevancy of financing Higher Education in Africa

The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has appealed to Institutions for Higher learning in Africa to utilize the various ways of generating funds and resources to cater for the rapid growth of the university students’ population.  This was during the Mount Kenya University 14th Graduation Ceremony held on 03rd August 2018, at the Mount Kenya University, Graduation Pavillion Grounds Thika- Garissa.

Mak-ASLC to use research-based policies to enhance Africa’s Socio- Economic Development

The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof.  Barnabas Nawangwe and the Chairman, Board of Africa Strategic Leadership Centre, Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari  signing the MoU on behalf of the two institutions respectively; witnessed by,Samia Yaba Nkrumah, Rt. Hon. Daniel Kidega, Irene Ikomu,  Prof. Edward Kirumira,  and Dr. Nansozi K. Muwanga.

On 1st August 2018, Makerere University Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Africa Strategic Leadership Centre (ASLC), in which the two parties agreed to use research-based policies to enhance Africa’s social and economic Development. Signed by the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof.  Barnabas Nawangwe and the Chairman, Board of Africa Strategic Leadership Centre, Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari on behalf of the two institutions respectively, the MoU stipulated that the two parties will:

Mak’s Prof Banadda Becomes First African to Scoop Distinguished Pius XI Gold Medal

Prof. Banadda is the first African to wint the Distinguished Pius XI Gold Medal

Makerere University Don Prof.  Noble Banadda has been awarded the Pius XI Gold Medal for the year 2018. The award, given by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences based at the Vatican, is in recognition of his outstanding scientific research.

Twenty-eight winners have been awarded the Pius XI Gold Medal since its launch in 1961, but Prof. Banadda will be the first African to receive it. Prof. Banadda is currently the Chair, Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES).
